Alt text (or also alternative text) is a short description of the image that is entered into the web page code. Displayed instead of an imageif it doesn't load and helps people with visual impairmentswho use screen readers. It is also used to better orientation of search enginesthat can't see the pictures themselves. Properly spelled alt text describes what is seen in the image, concise and to the point.
Furthermore, as of June 28, 2025, alt text is no longer just a best practice. For e-shops and other services subject to Act No. 424/2023 Coll., providing text alternatives for images is a legal requirement for website accessibility.
