Classic SEO as we have known it for the last ten years is undergoing a radical transformation. Today, if you're betting all your budget on chasing blue links on Google, you're willingly ceding a growing part of the market to your competitors. Because customers are no longer just asking traditional search engines. Increasingly, they are looking for comprehensive and immediate answers directly from chatbots (ChatGPT, Claude) and AI summaries (Google AI Overviews).

But this is not just about empty brand awareness building. It's about hard business and the quality of incoming traffic. The data shows that users who come to your website by clicking through from AI search, convert up to 4.4 times better than visitors from traditional organic search. The reason is simple: they come already fully informed, with a clear intent and ready to buy.

A number of new acronyms have emerged in the marketing world in this context. Let's put them in order, debunk the myth of the „death of SEO“ and show you concrete steps to get your website right in the AI's response.

What do the abbreviations AIO, GEO and AEO stand for?

All three terms essentially describe the same goal: the effort to ensure that artificial intelligence, when generating a response, cited your website as the main source. But each acronym looks at this new discipline from a slightly different angle:

  • AIO (AI Optimization): It represents the general process of optimizing content so that it can be correctly understood, processed and then cited by artificial intelligence.
  • GEO (Generative Engine Optimization): It focuses specifically on generative search engines. While traditional SEO works with traditional search algorithms, GEO optimizes the web directly for generative AI models that create comprehensive text answers.
  • AEO (Answer Engine Optimization): Means optimization for direct answers. The goal is to provide information so clear and structured that it can be used by a voice assistant or text chatbot as the only correct answer.

The difference between the traditional approach and the new reality can be explained with a simple analogy. SEO is like searching for a book in a library by keyword in a ticket catalogue. GEO is like asking an experienced librarian, which book to read when you want to start cycling, and he will recommend a specific model and summarise its advantages.

Is SEO dead? Not exactly

With the advent of artificial intelligence, there have been catastrophic scenarios that classic SEO is dead. But the opposite is true. Although AI models and chatbots are increasingly being used, according to several independent studies, visibility in AI models is directly linked to success in traditional search.

Artificial intelligence does not draw data from thin air. Language models are used to generate responses most often rely on sites that are already in the top 10 results of traditional Google searches and crawl information from them. If your site doesn't have the technical basics right, lacks authority, doesn't have backlinks, and loads slowly, the AI simply won't choose it for its answer. So SEO is not dying, but rather it is the necessary breeding ground for you to succeed in the AI era.

4 pillars: How to optimize the web for AI models

If you have a technically sound website with excellent content, you're halfway there. But there are specific areas you need to pay maximum attention to, if you want to convince the machines of your authority.

1. Extreme emphasis on structure and readability (For machines and humans)

Artificial intelligence needs to extract information quickly. If you have a continuous „wall of text“ on your site, the bot will most likely ignore it.

  • Break the text into smaller chunks. Use bullet points, numbered lists and tables to compare data. Listicle formats (articles structured as lists) are extremely successful in AI citations.
  • Establish comprehensive FAQ section (frequently asked questions) with direct and punchy answers.
  • Mirror the syntax in the headings. If your H2 heading is „What is AI visibility?“, start the first sentence of the paragraph with a straightforward definition: „AI visibility is...“ Avoid unnecessary textual cotton wool and marketing frills.

2. E-E-A-T and undisputed facts

Language models place a huge emphasis on the verifiability of information. They try to eliminate hallucinations and therefore look for signals E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness).

  • Convey real experience from practice, not just theoretical knowledge or cheap transcriptions of content from other sites.
  • Please specify accurate sources, citations and dates. Studies have shown that Simply adding relevant statistics and citations to existing content can increase visibility in AI results by up to 40 %. Artificial intelligence loves hard facts.

3. Technical SEO and structured data (Schema.org)

Structured data acts as a dictionary that tells robots exactly what is on the page. Microsoft has officially confirmed that actively uses structured data to help its models better understand the context of information.

  • Don't forget the schemas from the schema.org library: Article for blog articles, FAQPage for the questions and answers section, Product for detailed parameters on e-shops and LocalBusiness for local businesses.
  • Watch your loading speed. LLM model sources are expensive and bots won't waste power crawling a site that takes five seconds to load.
  • You can start experimenting with by deploying the file llms.txt. This file works as a lightweight text sitemap specifically designed for language models, which makes it radically easier to navigate your website.

4. Regular creation of new quality content and updating of existing content

Language models based on the principle of RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) they prefer to reach for fresh information. But that doesn't mean you have to write ten new articles a day.

  • Optimise and update your historical content is often a much higher priority than creating new content. Find out from analytics what content has worked for you in the past and add in the data that applies to the current year. Take into account new trends and let the AI know you care about your content.
  • Think also that quality always beats quantity in the long run. Sure, it's easy these days to generate hundreds of articles a day using AI. But if they don't have real timeliness, uniqueness a added value for readers, you're not likely to succeed anyway.

3 model situations from practice: What does GEO look like in business?

In order to give you a better idea of how to apply these relatively abstract principles, we have prepared three generalized examples based on the real needs of Czech companies.

1. B2B Software Agency (Building Expert Authority)

  • Situation: The agency develops complex ERP systems for manufacturing companies. Its clients make decisions worth millions of crowns and spend months doing in-depth research before approaching a supplier.
  • GEO Strategies: A simple product landing page is absolutely not enough here. The agency must publish comprehensive case studies full of hard data, ROI calculations and real results (thus fulfilling the requirements for Experience a Expertise). They must create an expert FAQ answering questions like „How is ERP integrated into logistics?“. The goal is to reach a state where the manager enters the query „Who are the best Czech ERP vendors for manufacturing“ into ChatGPT and the model gives him this agency lists her as an authority in the field and backs this up with her own case studies.

2. Specialized e-shop (Predatory fight for parameters)

  • Situation: A narrowly focused e-shop selling premium running gear that battles the retail giants.
  • GEO Strategies: If a user asks a model „What are the best running shoes with carbon plate for beginners?“, he does not want to read advertising slogans, but parameters. Therefore, the e-shop must have the products error-free deployed structured data (price, stock availability, user reviews and ratings). They must also include in the product details practical guides and Q&A blocks, that compare specific models. If the AI is looking for parameters and ratings, you need to serve it this information in a perfectly clean, machine-readable form.

3. Local Service Provider (Control of maps and surroundings)

  • Situation: Private dental clinic operating in Prague 4.
  • GEO Strategies: Here, the scheme plays an overwhelming role LocalBusiness. Artificial intelligence must understand exactly geographical context of the clinic, opening hours and treatments offered. The clinic must clearly present on its website the certifications and qualifications of the doctors. Once the user asks the AI assistant on the phone „Recommend me a modern dental clinic for implants in Prague 4“, the assistant will immediately process this structured data and confidently recommend the clinic to the user.

How to measure success when our classic click-throughs are disappearing?

This is the most pressing question for every marketer these days. In traditional SEO, we're used to seeing clear data from Google Search Console. But in AI search, you'll encounter the number of real clicks may decrease for certain queries, because the user has already learned his answer in the chat window. But does this mean that the optimization is not working? No. We just need to change the way we look at metrics.

Focus primarily on the following indicators:

  1. Frequency of citations (Share of Voice in AI): Track how often language models mention your brand when answering questions related to your industry.
  2. Accuracy of interpretation: AI must not hallucinate. If you have free shipping on your website over 2000 CZK, but the chatbot stubbornly tells customers that you have it already over 1000 CZK, you need to rewrite and clarify your terms and conditions, because the model cannot read them correctly.
  3. Measurement in Google Analytics 4 (GA4): Using referrals filters, you can set up separate measurement of traffic coming purely from domains such as gemini.com, chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai or claude.ai.
  4. AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools: A major new feature in 2026 that finally brings hard data directly from a major search engine is the launch of the bookmark AI Performance in Bing Webmaster Tools. Microsoft was the first to stop hiding AI data. This groundbreaking report will show you exactly how:
  • How many times has your site actually been cited as source in the answers (Total citations).
  • Like internal phrases (Grounding queries) the AI has formulated itself to find the information it needs on your website.
  • How the overall trend of your visibility in the AI space is evolving over time.

Do you feel that your website is slowly losing its breath in the AI era? Don't leave it to chance and don't wait for your competitors to like chatbots more. Implementing a workable GEO strategy isn't a matter of one cosmetic tweak to your text, but requires a deep technical and content overhaul that must work hand-in-hand with top-notch SEO. At Apadore, we are happy to we will consult without obligation, how to teach your website to „speak the language of robots“ and give it the visibility that will bring you real profits in the years to come.

A related topic is website accessibility. Search engines and language models are, in essence, highly sophisticated "blind" users; they read the structure, not the appearance. A website that a screen reader can handle can usually be handled by an AI model as well.

Another tool has been added to help you measure visibility outside your own website. Search Console now shows how your social media posts are performing in search results, including which search queries they appear for. An article on how to set it up is available at Measuring Social Media in Search Console.

Content quality also plays a role outside of AI search. Google regularly cleans up traditional search results by removing websites with unmoderated AI-generated text and purchased links—most recently in August 2026. What exactly This anti-spam update We discuss the impact of this change and how to determine if it affects you in a separate article.

A prerequisite for GEO is that AI models must be able to access your content in the first place. If your website runs through Cloudflare, access for AI bots may have been disabled without notice as early as September 2026. We explain how to check your settings—and when to intentionally tighten them—in our article about AI Robots on the Web.

AI models primarily cite sources they trust. In this article, we explore how to demonstrate that trust through experience, expertise, authority, and credibility. What Is E-E-A-T and How to Build It on a Company Website.
